NDIS expos get off to a great start in Gawler

Wednesday – 24 May 2017

Barossa, Light and Lower North

On Friday 12 May we held the first of 22 community expos we’re hosting across the state to introduce South Australians to the NDIS.

Thank you to the people of Gawler and surrounding areas for coming along - we had a great response as we prepare for the NDIS to be rolled out for people aged 18 to 64 in the Barossa, Light and Lower North region from 1 July 2017.

More than 100 people attended and heard from a range of speakers about how the NDIS works, as well as job opportunities in the sector.

Joining us at this special event was Tony Piccolo MP, the member for Light who welcomed everyone and then passed the baton to a panel of representatives from the disability sector, state and federal governments who presented important information about the operation of the scheme and took questions from attendees.

The panel was:

  • Tony Harrison - Chief Executive, Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI)
  • Jo Wickes– Regional Director, South Australia, National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA)
  • Peter Hoppo – State Manager, National Disability Services (NDS)
  • Mark Kemperman – Manager, Skills and Employment Initiatives, Department of State Development.

Also at the expo were 46 stallholders, including disability service providers and registered training organisations, providing information for people with disabilities and their families as well as talking to people about the job and training opportunities in the sector across the region.
