Community expos head to the Murray and Mallee region

Tuesday – 18 July 2017

Murray and Mallee

Murray Bridge and Berri played host to two NDIS community expos held in late June. Around 230 people attended across the two days to learn more about the introduction of the NDIS and hear from a range of speakers about how the scheme works, as well as job opportunities in the sector.

Thank you to the people of Murray Bridge, Berri and the surrounding areas for coming along – and we hope you got useful information as we prepare for the NDIS to be rolled out for people aged 18 to 64 in the Murray and Mallee region from 1 October 2017.

Attendees heard from a panel of representatives from the disability sector, as well as state and federal governments who presented introductory information on the scheme and took questions from the audience.

Panelists from the two expos include the following representatives:

Murray Bridge

  • Lois Boswell – Deputy Secretary, Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI)
  • Alex Reid – Deputy Chief Executive, Department of State Development (DSD)
  • Peter Hoppo – State Manager, National Disability Services (NDS)
  • Jo Wickes – Regional Director, South Australia, National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA)

Berri

  • Lois Boswell – Deputy Secretary, Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI)
  • Mark Kemperman - Manager, Skills and Employment Initiatives, DSD
  • Peter Hoppo – State Manager, National Disability Services (NDS)
  • Jo Brown – Director Stakeholder Management SA, NDIA

Over 60 stallholders appeared across the two expos, including disability service providers and registered training organisations, providing information for people with disabilities and their families as well as talking to people about the job and training opportunities in the sector across the region.
